BA prices for us last few years piss all over Virgin in trans atlantic... enjoyed US Airways... not so much AA or Delta... but as I only pay minimal prices I don't really care how I get over the pond...

Re: British airways.
Liek I said in terms of prices and the flight crew etc BA are pants. If you get silver + membership then the lounges are top notich compare to their, partners.

My favourite airline is Brussels Airlines. Do a flight to Stockholm on a small plane. Get hot food and fly to Bromma which is a small airport like 15 mins from the center of town.

BA bumped me up from Business to First Class on a flight from Singapore to Heathrow once, so they're alright in my book.

Not a fan of BA. find their planes and facilities are usually dated particularly in Economy. Flown them to LA and New York and also done the same journeys with Virgin and found them much better.

Favourite airlines have got to be Qatar Airlines, flew them from Jo'burg to Doha, then Doha to Barcelona. also Singapore Airlines from London to Singapore both much better alternatives.

Flying Emirates to Dubai later in the year for the first time and only heard good things.

Problems can occur if you attempt to jailbreak a Zoltanometer.

Did you fly the flag?

I bought it from a dodgy looking Israeli whilst visiting China.

Zoltanometers are designed to withstand any and all bullshit. Either you bought yours in China or its been hacked by Mossad.

My Zoltanometer has just exploded.

When I used to travel regularly for work we would mainly be booked on Oneworld airlines. At the time BA Business Class compared favourably with most other business class flights and the lounges at Heathrow were hard to beat. For quite a few years I was a BA Gold Member and got a fair few upgrades. BA First Class was exceptional and the difference between Business and First more marked than others where I had the privilege (Cathay and Emirates).

BA was also a good choice if travelling with a Peruvian girlfriend model.

My experience was mainly between 2002 and 2010 so may have all changed now.

Cathay, Malaysian, and Singapore in no particular order. Never had a bad flight yet

Re: British airways.
Never flown B.A, not that i can remember but always hear bad things.

Always flew Emirates going East but have flown Qatar 4 times in the last year to India twice, Thailand and Japan.
Got upgraded to Silver last week on my way back from Tokyo so chilled in the lounge which was nice.
Also been upgraded to Business to India once.

Always fly Virgin to NY so got Premier seats in June as an upgrade, Delta were ok as well when i flew to Atlanta.

It does matter with flights/carriers when you're paying out of your own pocket, none of these were for business. (That's to DICKSIE)

Qatar airways for me... Level of service was a very high standard in both economy and business class and food was amazing!

Hermit - only the ones that have been there a long time. For a few years now, anyone that joins BA is on a different contract and part of a different fleet that covers both short and long haul, and there package is nowhere near as good as the old one

Croe - a lot of companies stick to one airline as they can negotiate significant discounts direct with the airline if they have a high volume of flights. We use BA because of the joint venture agreement with AA on flights to the US (where our parent company are based) so are generally compelled to fly on them for business (although they will happily book is on to any OneWorld airline, which is a result)

Western airlines typically need to adhere to equal opportunities requirements and age discrimination whereas in other jurisdictions they can happily show them the door once they get a bit long in the tooth. The US airlines particularly seem to have long service award cabin crew and the most senior of these are there to scowl at you in business class.

For some reason on Qantas it is obligatory to be gay.

Good to hear Dan. Dreading the flights to be honest, which is why we are breaking them up with a stopover. How do you tell a 2 year old that she has to stay in one place for 10 hours or something!?!

Re: British airways.
Flew ANA last month and their crew were superb. I think hospitality comes more naturally to some cultures than others.

I like BA's but their style is definitely more "matron-esque"

Was at a party with one of their top bods on the cabin crew side of things last night and it does sound like they get treated well. He says he gets more free flight tickets than he can actually use. He has been there over 20 years though so maybe it's not the same for all of them. Probably not a bad job if you work your way up to serving 8 people in First Class instead of 300 in economy.

Jonah - I did the same journey at Christmas with my six-year-old. Thought they were well above average but the food wasn't all that.

One leg of the four there and back was with Air NZ and I was reminded how good they are at long haul.

On the way home I was chatting to another English family on the WLG - AKL flight who had flown China Southern to NZ and were full of praise. Cheap fares but decent service and brand-spanking new planes.
